It’s hard to believe that Labor Day has come and gone and for most of us, summer is (unofficially) over. I don’t know about you, but this time of year is a little like foodie limbo. I’m still loving all of the fresh flavors of summer but I’m also really starting to crave soups and stews and the comfort foods of fall and cooler weather. This week’s Good (Food) Reads is a mix of summer and fall recipe inspiration. We hope you find something to love and perhaps even a new family favorite! Until next week……
I don’t know what it is, but I had a hard time narrowing down my picks for this week’s Good Food Reads. There are just so many great foodie finds out there! Between all of the end of summer produce (the corn! tomatoes! the stone fruit!) and starting to crave fall time comfort foods, the recipe inspiration is endless. I hope you love these links as much as we do. Let us know if you make something great of if you have a suggestion for next week’s Good Food Reads. We are always excited to hear from you!
I have been on a huge salad kick lately. Gotta take advantage of all the great fresh veggies right now! This gorgeous Chicken Avocado Caprese Salad from Cafe Delites is next on my list. I’m not sure it even counts as a salad, it looks so hearty and delicious….
Week after week, the internet abounds with great foodie inspiration and Good (Food) Reads and we love getting to share them with you. I have been craving some sweets and breakfast foods lately and so it should be no surprise that my picks for Good (Food) Reads are filled with sweets and treats and a just a few comfort foods that work for breakfast, brunch, or in between. Friends, I present for your internet reading pleasure: Good (Food) Reads. If you’re new to our little site, Good (Food Reads) is our our weekly collection of recipe inspiration from around the web. There are so many great foodies and bloggers and the inspiration abounds! I’m hungry just thinking about all of these recipes. Personally, I’ve got the Grilled Strawberry Shortcake and Greek Wedge Salad on my family’s meal plan for the week. What new recipes are you excited to check out? As always, if you have anything (links, recipes of your own, or great foodie blogs) we should know about, please send them our way. We love to share the foodie love here on Good (Food) Reads!…
I have total Olympic Fever and I’m going to apologize in advance if it means that this week’s Good (Food) Reads is a little shorter than usual. There are swimming races, gymnastics competitions, and beach volleyball to watch, right?!?! And honestly, I feel a little guilty posting such decadent recipes after watching the swimmers (#absfordays)! So, before I head down the rabbit hole of kale and no carbs, here are this week’s Good (Food) Reads for you, filled with yummy appetizers, giant cinnamon rolls, and even WINE GUMMY BEARS. Yes, you read that right. WINE GUMMY BEARS. That’s what we do here for you on Good (Food) Reads. You’re welcome….
It’s Good (Food) Reads time again and I’m back from vacation and excited to share some great food inspiration with you all! After being away on vacation and not cooking for a while, I’m am ready to head back into my kitchen and try some new things. We love finding and sharing new recipes and videos with you, so if you have something you love and want us to share, be sure to send it our way! Oh, and one more thing – Lane forgot to mention that Monday’s post was our 100th! I can hardly believe we’ve already hit a fun little milestone. Thanks for following along. We can’t wait to see what the next 100 bring.
Ok, here we go…
BLT Balsamic Chicken Avocado and Feta Salad (Cafe Delites) is pretty much the salad of my summer dreams. Does anyone else feel the need to detox with nothing but salads after a vacation? I just want to eat allllllll the greens. The avocado and feta doesn’t hurt one bit, though!
Summer Squash Pizza (Smitten Kitchen) makes me feel all virtuous about pizza. And using summer’s bounty of zucchini and squash. Plus, it’s Smitten Kitchen, which is pretty much a guaranteed winner in my experience.
I think this may blur the line with the whole salad thing but I don’t really care. I’m saving this one for a night when my hubby is gone as he hates nectarines (sad but true). Still, I’m really excited to try this Nectarine Panzanella with Homemade Garlic Croutons (My Kitchen Love)
Super Healthy Broccoli Salad (The Fed Up Foodie). Like I said, I can’t get enough of the salads right now!
Cheesy Jalapeno Bacon Meatballs (Hey Grill, Hey) because I can’t always be virtuous. Plus, my little guy loves meatballs and this sounds like a fun take on a classic.
Frozen Peach Lemonade (As Easy As Apple Pie). Without vodka for now. With vodka later. YES.
Healthy Hawaiian Chicken Noodle Bowls (Fit Foodie Finds). My husband and I just returned from Hawaii and I can’t wait to make these noodle bowls from MN fave Fit Foodie Finds.
Challah Donuts (Molly Yeh). Because seriously, CHALLAH DONUTS. I can’t even. Someone please make these for me? Pretty please?
Blueberry Caprese Salad (Floating Kitchen). Love this take on a caprese. I’m still devouring blueberries like there’s no tomorrow and this will be a fun twist on a classic summer salad.
Brown Rice Pilaf for Instant Pot (Mel’s Kitchen Cafe). Do you have an InstantPot? I am trying to find more and more recipes to take advantage of the crazy time savings with pressure cooking. This brown rice pilaf seems like a great place to start.
Asian Turkey Burgers (Andie Mitchell). I am on a quest to find a flavor filled turkey burger that doesn’t dry out and definitely doesn’t serve as a meager substitute for a traditional burger and I have high hopes for this one.
As usual, send us a message via email, FB, Twitter, or Instagram and let us know if you try and of this week’s Good (Food) Reads! Until next time…
I hope you guys are hungry because this week’s Good (Food) Reads is chock full of recipe goodness. I’m always inspired by the other great food bloggers and home cooks out there and this week was no exception! My sweet tooth can’t wait to sample the Salted Caramel Stuffed Nutella Chocolate Cups and I have great plans for the Corn Fritters. What recipes are you looking to try this week?…
We’re having a little heat wave here in Minneapolis and needless to say, slaving over an oven doesn’t really seem all that fun when it’s 100 degrees and humid. So, instead of cooking, I’m sipping some passion fruit iced tea and ogling gorgeous foodie blogs for inspiration and saving these recipes for when it cools down a bit! It’s Good (Food) Reads for your (hot!) Wednesday afternoon…
When I first started dating my husband (and right up until we got married!), I was a vegetarian. The poor guy had to put up with many an (unusual for him) dish while eating out and eggplant parmesan was one we could both agree on. While I eat meat now, I can’t wait to try this Eggplant Parmesan Pasta Skillet from Cook Nourish Bliss.
Peanut Butter Banana Bon Bons (Joy the Baker). Lane and I have a ladies night out coming up in August and we’re in charge of desserts. I’m thinking these might be fun alongside some other fun sweet bites. What do you think, Lane?!?!?
Confession: I’m totally posting this Summer Fruit Plate (Half Baked Harvest) simply because it’s so darn beautiful and I can’t stop eating fresh fruit right now. Can someone make it for me? Pretty please?
Toasted S’More Truffle Pops (Ashlee Marie). I love that there’s a foolproof video for making these classic summer recipe inspired pops. Can’t wait to make them!
I’ve rarely met a fish taco I didn’t like. I’m thinking these might be a great weeknight dinner for our whole family: Chili Lime Fish Tacos (Pinch of Yum)
As my pregnancy progresses, I just want to eat ALL THE VEGGIES. This Kale Salad with Bacon and Blue Cheese (Gimme Some Oven) looks right up my alley. And yes, I plan to eat the blue cheese (don’t worry – I’ve found a great pasteurized version!).
Sweet Corn Risotto with Cajun Shrimp (Spoon Fork Bacon). In addition to wanting all the veggies, I am also still loving all the carbs. Risotto is a winter favorite – so comforting! – but this version with fresh sweet corn and tender spicy shrimp seems like the perfect excuse to try it in the summer.
I have been thinking about these Lemon Basil Shortbread Cookies (A Beautiful Plate) since I first saw them on Laura’s blog. My basil plants are exploding and this will be a fun way to use some in a sweet, rather than savory, dish.
140 Calorie Blueberry Banana Oat Flour Muffins (Broma Bakery), because life is all about balance, right?!?!
Rose Fruit Pops (Table For Two). These are happening as soon as I am no longer growing a child. Emily, Lane, you in?!!
Friends, that’s it for this week’s Good Food Reads. I hope you found some kitchen inspiration. See you next week!
The heart of summer is such a fantastic time to be a cook. Despite some days where the heat definitely makes the idea of standing over a stove less than appealing, the abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables makes up for it and this week’s Good (Food) Reads is filled with recipes that take advantage of all of that summer produce! Do you have a go-to summer recipe? Send it our way and we’ll feature it on Good (Food) Reads!…
Hello, friends! Welcome back to Good (Food) Reads. It’s hard to believe another week has passed and after a gorgeous, long, holiday weekend I’m actually finding it a little hard to be excited about food – I’m still SO FULL. But, for those of you who are ready to dive back into your kitchens, here’s this week’s collection of web inspiration that we call Good (Food) Reads.
For cooling off on those hot summer afternoons (and a perfect non-alcoholic option for parties!), I am really excited to try the Pineapple Mint Cooler from Honestly Yum.
Similarly, this Summer Bliss Juice from The First Mess sounds perfect for happy hour. I’ve been on a real watermelon kick lately so this one is right up my alley.
In a slightly less “healthy” direction, I’m planning on whipping up a batch of these Magic 5 Cookies later this week. We’re having some work done on our house and I think it will be a great treat for all the workers, or as my son loves to call them, “construction guys.” (Recipe via Sally’s Baking Addiction)
And since I am on the subject of sweets, has anyone tried these Peach Creamsicles from Meaningful Eats? They are vegan and dairy free, which basically negates the calories, right?!?!
As we really head into the heat of summer (yes!), I’m always looking for lighter dinner options. I am thinking these Turkey Thai Peanut Lettuce Wraps (The Creative Bite) or Grilled Monterey Chicken (A Kitchen Addiction) would be fantastic weeknight options. What are your favorite light(er) summer dishes? The Fed Up Foodie also posted a recipe for Mediterranean Tuna Salad that is calling my name…
Because of our construction project, grilling will be a little challenging the next few weeks. This One Pan Lemon Parmesan Chicken and Asparagus (Chelsea’s Messy Apron) could be a great and easy oven friendly option. Plus, limited clean up! Total winner already in my book.
And because I can’t pass up a good quinoa salad, I’m itching to try Cookie + Kate’s Sundried Tomato, Spinach, and Quinoa Salad.
Finally, I’m putting this out here really so that I can find it later! I’m always looking for new meals to bring to new parents and here’s a great compilation of ideas from The New York Times: Almost As Good As A Full Night’s Sleep – 26 Dishes to Cook for New Parents.
Friends, that’s it’s for this week’s Good (Food) Reads. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week and we’ll see you on Friday with a new post! Until then, send us your new favorite or must make recipes and we would love to feature them on the blog!!
