Some recipes really are the simplest ones. Lane and I spent last weekend at her cabin with a dear friend (Hi Em!) soaking up the summer weather and doing a little blog work. In addition to some R&R, we had spent some time in the kitchen developing and testing recipes that we will be sharing with ya’ll soon! One of the easiest and most versatile creations to come out of that weekend is this Bourbon Vanilla Whipped Cream.
With only four ingredients (!), this versatile topping takes no more than five minutes to whip up and is perfect on waffles or desserts, like our Dixie Pie or these Lemon Blueberry Ricotta Waffles. It adds the most wonderful touch of light and creamy goodness, with just a hint of warm vanilla and rich bourbon. You can adjust the amount of sugar or bourbon to taste, but I wouldn’t overdo it on either, as I think the subtle hints of flavor are really complementary to the sweet treats and not overpowering. One other warning – this is not a recipe to be made long ahead of when you’re planning to serve it. One to two hours is fine if you keep it chilled, but it really is best made just prior to serving!

What is the recipe for the item shown in the glass at the top of this page right under the heading? I can’t find anywhere in the article what it is called.

Hi Lori! It’s not so much a recipe as just layers of angel food cake, vanilla pudding, and the bourbon whipped cream – my lazy version of a trifle!
