Hey foodie friends, it’s that time again. I’m back with another round of Good Food Reads and this time (telling some internet truth here) life has been a little crazy lately so I’m taking a cue from some blogger friends and this week’s Good Food Reads is a simple roundup of five things I’m loving, reading, and thinking about lately.
01. Lobster Rolls. I’m currently out on the east coast on a little family vacation. My husband and I used to live out here and we still have a family connection that brings us back at least once a year. We love the little beach towns, the salt air, and the really good, really fresh seafood. My go to choice is always a classic lobster roll. If I’m in Rhode Island, I love to grab them at The 210 Oyster Bar. My oldest wasn’t feeling well tonight, so after a quick trip to urgent care (thank you, strep throat) we grabbed a quick takeout from our local beach bar and it was definitely a satisfying end to a bummer afternoon.
02. Halloween Dinner at Hogwarts. Yeah, you read that right. Nerd alert: I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and have been since the novels first came out. I’m currently reading the illustrated versions aloud to my son and it’s been so much fun revisiting all of the great characters and stories. Warner Bros. in London is offering a multi-course dinner on the set of the Great Hall from Hogwarts over Halloween and I would LOVE to go. Anyone in London wanna meet up? Find ticket information here.
03. Smart Ways to Make Cleaning Your Kitchen Less of a Chore. I need this article like you wouldn’t believe. While I love to create in the kitchen, I tend to make a bit of a mess while doing it (my husband refers to me as the kitchen tornado) and cleaning it all up isn’t exactly my favorite.
04. Books, books, books. 2018 has been a great reading year for me so far (highlights include this, this, this, and this) and there are some great titles still on my TBR (I’m especially excited to tackle this and this). I haven’t gotten as much reading done on this vacation as I typically would like (but I guess that’s what happens when you travel with a five year old and a one year old!) but just started The Ensemble and so far, so good.
05. The Health Benefits of Bilingualism. Random fact about me: I used to speak (fairly) fluent Norwegian. Yup, Norwegian. It’s a long story, but I grew up learning Norwegian and actually studied it in college, too! My parents gave me the gift of a second language and it has been hugely important to my life, even though my second language is a bit obscure. My son is starting school this fall and will be attending an after-school language immersion program in Spanish and I’m just so dang excited for him. I’m embarrassed to say that I don’t speak much Spanish myself, so I’m hoping to hit up Duolingo and learn along side him. Here’s a fun article on the benefits of speaking another language!
