It’s hard to believe that Labor Day has come and gone and for most of us, summer is (unofficially) over. I don’t know about you, but this time of year is a little like foodie limbo. I’m still loving all of the fresh flavors of summer but I’m also really starting to crave soups and stews and the comfort foods of fall and cooler weather. This week’s Good (Food) Reads is a mix of summer and fall recipe inspiration. We hope you find something to love and perhaps even a new family favorite! Until next week…
Very Versatile Orecchietti with Sausage + Parmesan (Joy the Baker adapted from Small Victories) is next up on my to-make list. I love the mix of sausage and fresh tomatoes and don’t even get me started on how much I love the cute little orecchietti. I first fell in love with the cute little pasta when I tried this recipe for Orecchiette with Mixed Greens and and Goat Cheese from Giada De Laurentiis years ago. It remains one of my all time favorites.
So, I am a little surprised at myself for how excited I am about this recipe because I’m not really a donut girl. I like my grandma’s homemade cake donuts and that’s pretty much it. Now, my husband on the other hand, has rarely met a donut he doesn’t like. Still, I have been contemplating getting a donut pan for a while (can anyone recommend a good one?) and these Glazed Lemon Poppy Seed Donuts (Sally’s Baking Addiction) are getting filed away in the ole recipe binder for a rainy-donut-morning.
And continuing the theme of “I don’t really have a sweet tooth but man that looks good” – check out these Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cupcakes (The Crepes of Wrath). Do they not look totally amazing? I think they’d be a really fun addition to a fancy brunch.
You guys, I am SO excited for Molly Yeh’s cookbook this fall. She really does make the most beautiful food and this Zucchini and Feta Pizza with Fresh Mint and Preserved Lemon (Molly Yeh) is certainly no exception. I just need to get my hand on some preserved lemons (or make some; Lane tells me it’s easy!).
The photography at Pinch of Yum always makes me drool and I’m pretty sure these No Bake Salted Caramel Cups are going to taste as good as they look. I’m super excited about the oat/pretzel/nut/dates crust. YUM.
Simple Sweet Potato Quinoa Bowls (Love and Lemons) would be such a great option for Meatless Monday. If you keep the dressing separate, these would also be great portable and healthy lunch options for the week!
Speaking of food for the week, I’m always looking for new recipes I can throw in a slow cooker and let simmer while I get on with the busy everyday. I’m really excited to try this Slow Cooker Chicken Potato Corn Chowder (Cafe Delites). The corn is so good right now and it seems like the perfect transition of seasons recipe.
For my husband, like a lot of others, the onset of fall means one thing: Football. And for me, Sunday football means food and often for a crowd. I think these appropriately named French Onion Field Goal Burger (Mantitlement) will have to make the menu at least once this upcoming season.
Skillet White Chicken Lasagna (Lemons For Lulu) is another comfort food in a pan recipe that I am excited about adding to my dinner rotation this fall.
And finally, how gorgeous are these Slow Roasted Cherry Tomatoes Preserved in Olive Oil (Heartbeet Kitchen)?
