Seriously, how is it already November? I feel like we were just dipping our toes into fall and pumpkin-spiced everything and now we are past Halloween and smack in the middle of the holiday ramp up. If you’re like me, you’re starting to think about Thanksgiving menus, holiday baking projects, and how to balance all of the great comforting foods that colder weather brings with the need to fit in my pants! Right? I’m not sure this week’s Good Food Reads are good for fitting into your pants, but they are definite recipe eye candy! Enjoy. And as always, send us your Good Food Reads Suggestions!
Homemade Banana Pudding from The Baker Chick. Ok, so this isn’t really a fall recipe, or a holiday recipe, but it is most definitely a comfort food in my book. Can’t wait to make this the next time I have a crowd to feed!
Cheesy Scallion Beer Bread Biscuits. I make a lot of chili in the fall and winter months (see my favorite recipe here) and am still on the search for the perfect beer bread or cornbread recipe to serve alongside the chili. This recipe for Cheese Scallion Beer Bread Biscuits from A Cozy Kitchen is next on my long list of candidates to try out!
Confession: I had no idea what a krembo was until I read Molly Yeh’s recent post featuring Pistachio Chocolate Krembos. Apparently, they are an Israeli treat that resembles a mallomar (see also: This NPR piece on Mallomars: The Cookie That Everyone Likes to Hoard). This particular recipe comes from Amy Kritzer’s book on Jewish treats, Sweet Noshings. I just think they’re super cool looking and might be a fun weekend baking project.
Ok friends, go check out this Creamy Chicken and Gnocchi Soup (Spoon Fork Bacon). I’ve never thought to put gnocchi in soup but after seeing this recipe, I think it needs to happen. Ultimate comfort food, for sure. Has anyone tried it?
Speaking of soup, I’m really intrigued by this Slow Cooker Chicken Noodle Soup (Damn Delicious). I have a great need in my life for slow cooker recipes right now (or InstantPot) as I have a newborn and precious little extra time to hang in the kitchen. I find that with the slow cooker, things are either awesome, or mushy and barely edible. I’m going to give this recipe a try ASAP and will report back. Fingers crossed for a winner!
Not a recipe, per se, but a trick to soften butter quickly. Which, let’s face it, I need badly because I NEVER remember to set the butter out ahead of time when the urge to bake cookies strikes. And also because I am not patient in the kitchen AT ALL.
Cranberry Brie Grilled Cheese. Because the cranberry sauce in cans is just gross. And this sandwich is total motivation to make sauce from scratch (via Joy the Baker).
Another gem from King Arthur Flour: Freeze and Bake Dinner Rolls. Perfect for Thanksgiving make ahead prep, or for Sunday dinner. I’ll be making these this weekend!
Well friends, I hope you enjoyed Good Food Reads for this Wednesday. We’ll see you next week with more recipe inspiration!
