Hi y’all! Holly and I recently discovered the grill. I know, I know, I’m sure many of you are sighing, I mean really, why in the world have two avid home cooks NOT been using the grill? I will tell you though, for both of us, the grill has previously been the baby of our husbands, and you know how those guys can get…territorial. Plus both of us are super busy moms (with four kids between us), run this blog, run bookclubs (hi ladies!), and work FULL TIME! Far be it for us to look a gift horse…or whatever that crazy cliche is! Someone was going to feed the kids and give us a night off-we ACCEPT!
Alas…there was a day recently that there was no husband around (yep, they work too) and therefore we had to figure it out. Turns out all of that fancy schooling we did paid off…the gas grill was conquered! To be honest, all we had to do was grill some bread for an appetizer, so not rocket science, but hey, we have to start somewhere! So for this episode of Good Food Reads we wanted to pay homage to the grill. And because Minnesota summer is so beautiful for grilling we also wanted to introduce you to some local Minnesota bloggers. Ready? Read on for some amazing grilling recipes…
So for me when I say GRILL, I immediately think of steak. And specifically Flank Steak (OK, or filets, but stick with me here). Flank steak is a relatively inexpensive cut of beef, delicious when thinly sliced, and easily can feed a crowd. Check out this Flank Steak with Chimichurri recipe from our own blog. Have I mentioned Chimichurri is my very favorite condiment?
For more steak options, check out this gorgeous display of Steak Kabob Skewers with Peach Salsa by The Butter Half. The photos are amazing and I can’t wait to try this! Perfect summer dinner!
Chicken is also the perfect summer grilling food. Like this Grilled Chicken Shawarma with Yogurt Tahini Sauce by Strength and Sunshine. This recipe is gluten free and paleo so will fit a wide range of dietary preferences. If you haven’t tried these flavors, you need to. Stat.
Want more bright, bold flavors? Try this Coconut Lime Grilled Chicken Marinade by Family Food on the Table. All my favorite flavors in one simple dish. Or try out local Minneapolis blogger, Pinch of Yum‘s The Best 3 Ingredient Grilled Chicken Recipe. How simple is that?
Do you prefer a salad? How about this Grilled Citrus Chicken Strawberry Harvest Salad from A Kitchen Addiction? Shout out to Jessica, our fellow Minnesota gal! Speaking of fellow Minnesota gals, Amanda at HeartBeet Kitchen has a beautiful vegetarian Grilled Romaine Salad video you should check out. Because it turns out that a grilled salad is next level. And you should definitely go there!
Seafood? Yep, our local bloggers have you covered there. Minnesota Bloggers Represent. Like this recipe for Foil Pack Salmon with Grilled Pineapple Salsa by Fit Foodie Finds. Or this one for Grilled Shrimp Skewers with Marie Rose Sauce by Bacon Fatte. I will readily admit I have never heard of this particular sauce, but this one sure sounds amazing. And to add a little spice to your life, here is this 5 Pepper Bloody Mary with Grilled Jalapeno Shrimp by A Farmgirl’s Dabbles. Make sure to make extra, your friends will thank you!
Want to grill your veggies? How about this Mexican Street Corn (Elotes) from our blog. I dream about this corn at night. Really.
Want to walk on the wild side? Try one of these amazing grilled pizzas by Girl Carnivore. Yes. Please.
And because of you may be really serious grillers, here are the Tips and Tricks by Serious Eats. Because, you know, authority.
You may have noticed I have not included burgers in this edition of Good Food Reads, and other than these Cabin Burgers from our own blog (which I’ll be making this weekend FOR SURE, my kids have already requested them). I plan to do another burger focused Good Food Reads in the coming weeks. Because burgers deserve an edition of their own. So stay tuned…you won’t want to miss it! Plus, who doesn’t need more grilling recipes?
Happy Cooking-and if you get a chance-drop us a line below. Nothing makes us happier than getting to interact with our readers! Plus we want to know what your favorite foods are to grill! (I’m already scouting for great ideas for Good Food Reads: Grilling Edition Part 2!)
