Friday Five: Let Us Give Thanks (A Love Letter)

November 22, 2019 By Lane 2 Comments

Thanksgiving is upon us and I have to admit, this is my absolutely FAVORITE holiday! A full day committed to giving thanks, good food, and family gets my vote any day of the week. The entire month of November always makes me stop and think about all of those things in my life that I have to be grateful for. So here are my thoughts on gratitude this year and all of the things that I will give thanks for!

Friday Five: Comfort and How to Find it.

November 8, 2019 By Lane Leave a Comment

I’ve been doing a lot of waxing poetic recently. Maybe it’s the recent college visits for my daughter, maybe it’s being in my mid forties, maybe it’s the impending winter (sigh.). Maybe it’s that since Daylight Savings Time last weekend, it gets dark by 5pm (ugh!). Whatever it is, I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about what brings me comfort and how to find it. So let’s talk about finding comfort. Maybe these can help you too!

A Moveable Feast: Creamed Jalapeño Spinach

July 11, 2017 By Lane 1 Comment

Creamed Jalapeno Spinach

Our epic 8 course dinner party (lovingly named A Moveable Feast) continues with this amazing Creamed Jalapeño Spinach.  Truth is, I’m a relative newbie when it comes to creamed spinach.  My initial thoughts when faced with creamed spinach were not terribly positive.  However after tasting it, I was immediately a convert.  Really, it’s heavenly!  But decide for yourself.  Since my obsession with creamed spinach involves great friends, a (now) destination brewery, and my culinary crush, you might just want to read more!

A Moveable Feast: Beer Braised Brisket

June 27, 2017 By Lane 7 Comments

Beer Braised Brisket

Signature cocktails.  Eight courses.  Ten friends.  This is the perfect recipe for an Epic Dinner Party, which we’ve aptly named “A Moveable Feast”.  The ten of us pair up to host nights filled with great food, great friends and tons of laughter.  This fabulous tradition started by two of our colleagues, brings us all to the table to share our common love…food!  The first time we hosted this dinner we chose a menu of comfort foods we loved (to see that menu click here).  This time around we went with a Southern theme.  Like this Beer Braised Brisket, served in a basket complete with a red gingham liner (just like at your favorite Southern BBQ joint!).  …

German Chocolate Cake: Kids in the Kitchen

January 23, 2017 By Lane 14 Comments

German Chocolate Cake

I got the sweetest text last month.  One of my friends told me that her eight year old daughter was wondering “if that girl who makes really good cake” could come over and bake with her over the Christmas holiday.  And when asked what she wanted to make, the answer was German Chocolate Cake.  Yep, sounded good to me!  This post chronicles their (super fun) day.  The food isn’t styled, the lighting isn’t perfect, there was no thought given to composition, but hopefully it encourages you to get your own kids into the kitchen.  It’s amazing what they can create!…

An Epic Dinner Party

March 25, 2016 By Lane 6 Comments

Dinner party place setting

Some dear friends of ours decided to start a supper club and invited 6 women to join them, including Holly and I.  The first Epic dinner party for our little group.  It was a no kids, no spouses, affair held at the beautiful home of our friend.  We ate, we drank, we laughed-until almost 1 am.  We all agreed it was a truly fabulous time.  And our dear friends-chefs extraodinaire!  We were served an 8 course dinner, complete with wine pairings.  It was a foodie dream.  And by the end of the night, all 8 of us agreed to pair up and keep the tradition going, at least quarterly….
