Good Food Reads: Thanksgiving 2017 Part 1
Oh my friends, it’s November! And although November certainly means cold, windy, dark days here in Minneapolis, November is completely redeemed by the fact that it brings THANKSGIVING (my very favorite holiday ever). Thanksgiving means thousands of sides, desserts, and leftovers for days. I make homemade rolls that serve as dinner rolls on Thanksgiving Thursday and serve as the backbone of the perfect turkey sandwich on Black Friday. Leftover stuffing and mashed potatoes serve as a Black Friday breakfast that dreams are made of. I know y’all are planning your own Thanksgiving feasts, so here are a few suggestions!
(Never fear, this is only part 1!)

Good (Food) Reads
Another week, another batch of Good Food Reads for ya’ll. This week’s picks are focused on fall salads, comfort foods, and sweet treats for all. I’m particularly excited to get back into soup season and plan to make the 5 ingredient Sweet Potato Chili later this week – that is, if it’s not still 80 degrees. Otherwise, I’ll be sticking with salads. And apples, apples, apples! (PS: If you haven’t yet gotten your first taste of honeycrisps this fall, run to your nearest grocery store! They are fantastic this year.)
First on my list of must make recipes is this gorgeous Fall Salad with Apples, Walnuts, and Stilton (Cooking Light). I am always looking for ways to up my salad game and I love that this one takes advantage of the beautiful bounty of apples we have right now.
Another fall favorite, this recipe for Cinnamon Apple Cake (Cooking Light), was first published in 1997 but continues to be a favorite.
Cooking Light really hit it out of the park this week – I want to make so many things right now! I’m loving this article on Everything You Need To Know About Quick Pickling (Cooking Light). Do you do any pickling? I’ve never really tried but can’t wait to get it a shot.
Salted Caramel Pots de Creme (Goodhousekeeping). Because sometimes you just really need dessert. And not the healthy kind, either.
Easy Chicken Nuggets via Weelicious, for the kiddos in your life. Fancy them up with a little honey mustard and everyone can enjoy in this easy, family friendly recipe!
Speaking of dessert, these Espresso Brownie Sandwich Cookies (Broma Bakery) look amazing and would be a great weekend dessert.
One of my favorite things about cooler temps is that I can really up my soup and chili intake. In my house, we probably have chili once a week in the fall and winter. I’m anxious to see if this 5 Ingredient Sweet Potato Turkey Chili (Pinch of Yum) makes it into the husband and kid approved rotation.
Another salad that would be perfect for bringing to work: Kale & Quinoa Salad with Dates, Almonds, and Citrus Dressing (The Kitchn). Yum.
Turkey Vegetable Ragu (The Baker Chick). I love that this ragu seems so versatile. I’m thinking it will be great with pasta, zoodles, or maybe even with stuffed peppers!
Grilled Blue Cheese with Honey and Walnut Pesto (Molly Yeh). I just can’t even describe how much I want one of these sandwiches right now. I’ve been sticking to pasteurized cheeses this pregnancy and am excited about some gorgeous, double cream, raw blue cheese in my future!
Well friends, that’s it for this week’s Good Food Reads. I hope you found some kitchen inspiration. As always, we love to hear from you, so send us your links, things you want to try, or your kitchen successes!
Good (Food) Reads
It’s Good (Food) Reads time again and I’m back from vacation and excited to share some great food inspiration with you all! After being away on vacation and not cooking for a while, I’m am ready to head back into my kitchen and try some new things. We love finding and sharing new recipes and videos with you, so if you have something you love and want us to share, be sure to send it our way! Oh, and one more thing – Lane forgot to mention that Monday’s post was our 100th! I can hardly believe we’ve already hit a fun little milestone. Thanks for following along. We can’t wait to see what the next 100 bring.
Ok, here we go…
BLT Balsamic Chicken Avocado and Feta Salad (Cafe Delites) is pretty much the salad of my summer dreams. Does anyone else feel the need to detox with nothing but salads after a vacation? I just want to eat allllllll the greens. The avocado and feta doesn’t hurt one bit, though!
Summer Squash Pizza (Smitten Kitchen) makes me feel all virtuous about pizza. And using summer’s bounty of zucchini and squash. Plus, it’s Smitten Kitchen, which is pretty much a guaranteed winner in my experience.
I think this may blur the line with the whole salad thing but I don’t really care. I’m saving this one for a night when my hubby is gone as he hates nectarines (sad but true). Still, I’m really excited to try this Nectarine Panzanella with Homemade Garlic Croutons (My Kitchen Love)
Super Healthy Broccoli Salad (The Fed Up Foodie). Like I said, I can’t get enough of the salads right now!
Cheesy Jalapeno Bacon Meatballs (Hey Grill, Hey) because I can’t always be virtuous. Plus, my little guy loves meatballs and this sounds like a fun take on a classic.
Frozen Peach Lemonade (As Easy As Apple Pie). Without vodka for now. With vodka later. YES.
Healthy Hawaiian Chicken Noodle Bowls (Fit Foodie Finds). My husband and I just returned from Hawaii and I can’t wait to make these noodle bowls from MN fave Fit Foodie Finds.
Challah Donuts (Molly Yeh). Because seriously, CHALLAH DONUTS. I can’t even. Someone please make these for me? Pretty please?
Blueberry Caprese Salad (Floating Kitchen). Love this take on a caprese. I’m still devouring blueberries like there’s no tomorrow and this will be a fun twist on a classic summer salad.
Brown Rice Pilaf for Instant Pot (Mel’s Kitchen Cafe). Do you have an InstantPot? I am trying to find more and more recipes to take advantage of the crazy time savings with pressure cooking. This brown rice pilaf seems like a great place to start.
Asian Turkey Burgers (Andie Mitchell). I am on a quest to find a flavor filled turkey burger that doesn’t dry out and definitely doesn’t serve as a meager substitute for a traditional burger and I have high hopes for this one.
As usual, send us a message via email, FB, Twitter, or Instagram and let us know if you try and of this week’s Good (Food) Reads! Until next time…
