April 12, 2019 By Lane 21 Comments

I am so excited about the Friday Five this week!  Today I get to share my obsession-COOKBOOKS!  And I’m going to tell you my five must have favorite cookbooks.  And best of all, we have a cookbook GIVEAWAY-just in time for you to plan your Cinco de Mayo party!  Keep reading and enter to win below!

Friday Five: My five must have favorite cookbooks

Ottolenghi Simple by Yotam Ottolenghi

As most of you know I am obsessed with cookbooks.  I read a lot.  Novels, nonfiction, memoirs-I love it all!  And I get almost all my books my local library which I download via the Libby app.  Everything that is, except cookbooks.  I need hard bound cookbooks with all of their beautiful photos.  And I’ve got a pretty great collection that I read like novels.  Although always changing, these are my five must have favorite cookbooks right now!

My five must have favorite cookbooks!

Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by Samin Nosrat.  I’m pretty sure you’ve all seen this one on our social media threads.  This is my travel cookbook.  It’s been to Arizona, California, France, Italy. This one has been read in the car, on high speed trains, and on airplanes.  I love the writing, I love the drawings, I love all of the information.  Samin just doesn’t just give us recipes, she teaches how to cook-and it is such a fun education.  I’m actually reading it cover to cover for the second time! (At the very least, watch the series on Netflix.  It’s beautiful and Samin is one of those people who you’ll immediately want to be your bestie!)

Ottolenghi Simple by Yotam Ottolenghi.  I started reading this one while on vacation in Arizona.  I was blown away by the beautiful use of vegetables and the gorgeous photography.  Ottolenghi is known for creating recipes with long ingredient lists, hard to find spices, and complicated steps.  Simple is all of the great flavors of Ottolenghi’s traditional recipes but in greatly simplified form.  Every page I turn is another recipe I want to make!

Cooks Illustrated Vegetables.  Plant based and plant forward diets are all of the rage, for a very good reason!  Research shows that vegetables should make up a the largest portion of your diet.  This cookbook shows you how to make your vegetables delicious.  It is organized by vegetable so it is perfect to use when you get your CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) box and need to know what to do with that celeriac or those leeks.

Dinner: Changing the Game by Melissa Clark.  I’ve had this one for awhile and I must admit to being a little bit of a fan girl when it comes to Melissa Clark.  (Check out her Instant Pot book-it’s also amazing). These recipes are diverse and amazing.  The photos will make you drool.

The Complete Cookbook for Young Chefs by America’s Test Kitchen.  I gave this cookbook to my 7 year old son for Christmas and it is a keeper.  The cookbook is filled with the “why” of cooking, including not only recipes but techniques.  My son loves that he can say he has his own cookbook and he loves choosing recipes that we can make together.  Every time I say I want to make a certain food, he runs to his cookbook to see if he has a recipe!  It’s truly the perfect book for getting your kids into the kitchen, especially your kids who are already readers.

I have so many more favorite cookbooks, but these are my must haves right now!  Let us know what YOUR favorite cookbooks are-leave us a comment below!

Now for the COOKBOOK GIVEAWAY!

Friday Five: My Five Must Have Favorite Cookbooks. Tex Mex Diabetes Cooking with an enchilada.

And now for the GIVEAWAY!  Author, Kelley Coffeen, was kind enough to send us a copy of her cookbook “Tex Mex Diabetes Cooking” to giveaway to our readers.  I know what you’re thinking…I don’t have diabetes, I don’t need a “health” cookbook.  But you’ll love the mouthwatering recipes and chances are you know someone who could benefit from the health aspect of the recipes in this book-I loved the ones I made!  (In case you didn’t get a chance to read it: here is my review).  And it wouldn’t be great to have this amazing book of recipes you could use for your upcoming Cinco de Mayo party?  Don’t forget to read the terms and conditions and then enter to win!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!

I grew up in a classic American household eating foods from many different nations but my I loved it when my German grandma came to visit. Her food was so amazing and that is why I really like the “German Jewish cookbook”. The recipes remind me of my childhood.

This sounds SO good! I’m going to have to keep my eye out for that one! Isn’t it so cool how food preferences are so deeply ingrained in memory? I just love people’s stories!!
