Summer…ah, summer. Sandals and sunscreen, sunshine and summer storms. My kids are finished with school for the summer and although my oldest in on a school trip to Washington D.C., my little is home during the day. On the days I’m not at work we’ve been talking about what summer foods we want to make this summer. I bet you’ll be able to guess which summer foods he picked in this edition of Good Food Reads! Read on… Let’s start Good Food Reads with these Rose Raspberry Sorbet Mimosas by Fox and Briar. Did I mention my little is home all day? I’m adjusting to the “mom-mom-mom-mom-mom” refrain that I’m hearing on repeat. I’m not sure I’ve ever answered so many questions in my life. This beauty of a drink will help! And because he is going to want a “special” drink too, I’ll make him this Pina Colada Lime Cooler by Mildly Meandering. Without the rum, of course!
A recent find I think my whole family will agree on are these Chicken Skewers with Cucumber-Garlic Yogurt Sauce by Diethood. Holy Moly Batman these are beautiful. And that sauce…I could eat it with a spoon. My little approves because it’s served on a stick, and he’s all for any food he can eat off of a stick!
And because it’s summer, glorious summer, check out this refreshing salad by A Kitchen Addiction. This Creamy Ranch Tomato Cucumber Salad is everything that is good about summer and the kitchen garden. Juicy tomatoes, crisp cucumbers all brought together with a fresh dressing. The best part is, the main ingredients will be soon growing right in my backyard. I also think Jessica of A Kitchen Addiction may be located in Minnesota as well-might be time for a meet up!
Since I’ll be heading to the backyard to find my produce for the salad, I’m going to fire up the grill and start some grilling! I’m pretty sure I’d like any grilled meat paired with this beautiful Fresh Blueberry Bourbon BBQ Sauce by Pook’s Pantry. On second thought, we may be able to skip the meat, I may just eat this with a spoon! And the color…WOW!
Summer wouldn’t be summer without a burger! Since we’re on the topic of Bourbon, let’s try out this Bourbon Burger by Foodtastic Mom. This one features bourbon right in the burger. Topped with onions caramelized in bourbon and I think I’ve found my summer burger!
Every great summer meal needs a great summer dessert. (And this may or may not have been where my little started choosing the food…) And since the last week in Minneapolis has been hot and humid I think we all need some ice cream. These Sweet and Salty Popcorn Sundaes by Heather Loves Food definitely ups the sundae game. I mean really, popcorn? Yes please! And if popcorn isn’t your thing, turn to this Salted Caramel Pretzel Ice Cream by 4 Sons “R” Us. Because who would say to no to this? And if you’ve ever had freshly made homemade ice cream, you know it’s a million times better than what you can buy in your local market. Take the time. You won’t be sorry.
Judging from the amazing amounts of “summer” food out there, you’re likely see another “summer edition” of Good Food Reads, there is just so much good stuff waiting to be shared! Join us next week where we begin to share the details of the 8 course, 10 person Supper Club Dinner Holly and I just hosted last night. Recipes and photos coming soon, because there is nothing more fun than a good #dinnerparty!
And as always, here are the links for the recipes from the above Good Food Reads photo: Cabin Burgers and Chipotle Adobo Potato Salad from With Two Spoons.
