Well friends, here we are. The day before Thanksgiving. I’m sure that most of you are busy getting ready to welcome friends and family to your homes or to travel to meet with loved ones and share a (likely huge!) meal. I look forward every year to the traditional foods of Thanksgiving. I love mashed potatoes, roasted brussels sprouts, and dixie pie. For me, the turkey is ok, but the real game is in the sides. What are your Thanksgiving favorites?
As much as I love big holiday meals, I love “normal” food after such a heavy eating time. With that in mind, I’ve focused this week’s Good Food Reads on seasonal meals that are just a little lighter or not pumpkin spiced!
Slow Cooker Mexican Lasagna (Weelicious via 100 Days of Real Food), because let’s face it, we all need a break from the kitchen after Thanksgiving!
School Lunches (100 Days of Real Food). See above. Does anyone else feel like you make the same lunches every day?
Apple Cake with Chai Spiced Buttercream (Spoon Fork Bacon). I can’t wait to try this one.
Shepherd’s Pie (Dinner: A Love Story) is one of my favorite comfort foods and I know this recipe from one of my favorite foodies will not disappoint.
Gingerbread Men (Family Circle), for baking and decorating. Bring on Christmas!!!
Ginger-Honey Glazed Pork Tenderloin (Cooking Light) is a great, weeknight option that is full of flavor and not too terrible for you. Gotta love Cooking Light!
Cranberry and Spiced Sweet Potato CousCous with Feta (Feast with Sophie). I am making a big batch of this for the weekend after Thanksgiving. It’s redemption food, people.
Herbed Quinoa and Chickpea Salad with Lemon-Tahini Dressing (Cookie + Kate). Because we could all use a little more salad after our feasts.
Until next week…
