The gorgeous weather is heating up! Minneapolis hit 100 degrees on Memorial Day Weekend and it has been beautiful ever since! Since so much of what we decide to eat is tied to the weather, that must mean it’s time for some cool treats! Welcome to Good Food Reads: Popsicle and Sorbet (Part 1) featuring some delicious recipes for homemade popsicles and homemade sorbet. This is part 1, only because I found so much great stuff out there, that I’m positive that before we move into August, I’ll have to bring you a Part 2!
And since I know so many of you make so many of your own homemade popsicles and sorbets, leave us a comment below and tell us your favorites! (we may decide to feature your recipe in Part 2!)
SOME OF THE LINKS IN THIS POST ARE AFFILIATE LINKS AND WE WILL RECEIVE A SMALL COMMISSION IF YOU MAKE A PURCHASE AFTER CLICKING ON OUR LINK. THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR WORK HERE AT WITH TWO SPOONS!]
Let’s start with making popsicles! Popsicles are super easy and super delicious when homemade. You can use all of the ripest fruit and make exactly the flavors you love. I use the Zoku Quick Pop Maker (affiliate link) which needs to be stored in the freezer between uses, but will make your popsicles quickly. If you aren’t pressed for time, and can leave your popsicles in the freezer for a longer amount of time, this Popsicle Mold Set gets rave reviews (affiliate link) and is quite a bit less expensive! Need to store your popsicles in the freezer? This Zoku Quick Pop Storage Case (affiliate link) makes storing your Zoku popsicles a snap. Once the popsicles are frozen, stacking them with parchment paper between them or wrapping them in plastic wrap are also options if you don’t want to buy at storage case.
For Sorbet, I love my Cuisinart Pure Indulgence 2 Quart Ice Cream Maker (affiliate link). I keep my bowl in the freezer and am ready to make sorbet (or ice cream) at any time. I love the 2 quart size, as I usually want to make enough for left overs. I usually store my finished product in these Anchor TrueSeal 11 Cup Glass Food Storage Containers (affiliate link) which are easy to stack in my freezer.
So now on to the recipes I can’t wait to try!
Popsicles:
Creamy Strawberry Lemonade Popsicles by Good Life Eats. These incorporate greek yogurt into a lemon-y, strawberry filled popsicle.
Make Your Own Homemade Fruit Popsicles by Jessica Gavin. If options are what you are looking for, here is the recipe for you! Jessica is a culinary scientist and if you are a fan of J. Kenji Lopez-Alt or Food Network’s Alton Brown, Jessica has plenty of the science behind the technique for you!
Rainbow Popsicles by The First Year may be the most beautiful popsicles I have ever seen (and I think all popsicles are beautiful). Honestly, click on the link, these are beyond. And since they are made by layering smoothies, you will also likely have leftover smoothie to drink. Bonus!
All Natural Mango Popsicles by Homemade Interest are also gorgeous and full of good stuff. Simple and using only a few ingredients, these are the perfect quick treat. Keep a bag of frozen mango slices in your freezer and you are good to go!
Mint Chocolate Cheesecake Popsicles by Jamie of A Baking Addiciton, posted on Good Life Eats. These are not the healthy, fruit filled wonders you probably came here for, but if you’re looking for decadence, these will fit the bill!
Sorbet:
Pomegranate Lime Sorbet by With Two Spoons was adapted by Holly for a dinner party we were throwing for our girlfriends. Served in little lemon cups, it was a huge hit!
Balsamic Peach and Basil Sorbet by With Two Spoons was developed for Queen Creek Olive Mill using their delectable Peach White Balsamic Reduction (which is also good on salads, cottage cheese, cheese and crackers, pretty much anything!). This sorbet is complex, refreshing and delicious!
Easy Fruit Sorbet Recipes from A Sweetpea Chef are such easy recipes, they don’t even use an ice cream maker! Mix and match the flavors to satisfy everyone in your family!
Pineapple Sorbet by Two Peas and a Pod is perfect for my pineapple loving husband. Sweet and tropical, this is another recipe I’ll be making soon!
13 Boozy Sorbet Recipes That Will Make Your Summer by Delish is the one you were all waiting for, even if you’re not willing to admit it! Sorbet flavors like Sangria, Watermelon Margarita, and Blood Orange Mimosa are the perfect addiction to your fancy brunch, BBQ dinner or just a great treat for your afternoon at the lake.
Stay tuned for more Popsicle and Sorbet recipes in Part 2, and also stay tuned for an upcoming Good Food Reads featuring some food from my recent trip to New York City!

I must confess that although I’m a food blogger and I love to make treats, I haven’t made popsicles or sorbet in about a decade!
Your sorbet in the little lemon cups look so yummy and refreshing!
