I know I already told you about the amazing Healthy Kitchens, Healthy Lives Conference that I was lucky enough to attend in Napa, California, but how did we spend our time off? We definitely made the most of it- Napa Style!
…A Quick Jaunt to the Windy City, Chicago!
Nothing will make you feel older than when you realize it is time to start college visits for your kiddo. Is it really this time already? I pretty sure it was just yesterday I was teary over the first day of kindergarten! For better or worse, the answer is YES. As my oldest wants a school in or very near to a big city, we decided to take a quick trip to the Windy City, Chicago, to check it out!
…5 Travel Essentials For Long Flights
If you’ve been following With Two Spoons for awhile, you might have noticed that both Lane and I love to travel. We both really love the thrill of experiencing new places and cultures, especially when it comes to food! Late last week, my husband and I snuck away to Hawaii to celebrate our birthdays. Hawaii is one of our favorite places in the world for so many reasons – beautiful weather, gorgeous beaches, and (of course) amazing food. It’s our favorite place to really, truly relax. The one thing we don’t always love? The flight time. From the midwest, you’re looking at a solid 9 hours of in seat time to get to this island paradise. And while Hawaii is 100 percent worth it, as well all know, flying isn’t always the most pleasant of experiences. That being said, I’ve discovered over time that there are a few small things that can make long flights a little more enjoyable. Here’s my personal list of 5 Travel Essentials for Long Flights! …

Friday Five: Traveling with Young Kids
If you’ve been following along with our Instagram or Facebook this week, you might have noticed that both Lane and I are down in the beautiful state of Arizona enjoying the desert sun and warm weather. As it is spring break for many schools right now, the airport was filled with kids and families when we traveled last week. As I prepare to fly back home this weekend, I’ve been thinking about the things I frequently rely on to make traveling with young kids just a little bit easier. This week’s Friday Five is all about Traveling with Young Kids.
Loves Food, Will Travel: Four Days in Ojai
Food and travel – and especially in combination – have always been a huge part of my life. From the time I was pretty young, I have had a serious travel bug. I’m thankful that my parents were game for exploring with young kids and were also supportive of my wanderlust when I got a little older and headed off for exotic new places. Over time, my travel has slowed a little as life has been filled with young kids and busy jobs, but I still love to get away and experience new places and cultures as often as I can. Recently, Lane and I had the great opportunity to head to Ojai, California for a work conference and man, did we love it. We were able to spend four days in Ojai where we experienced tons of great food and explored a new to us region that I will definitely be heading back to soon.
Good Food Reads: Valdirose
While planning my recent trip to Italy, I read everything I could get my hands on. I was particularly interested in lodging, since my last trip to Italy was via a cruise where I didn’t need to worry about where we would stay. As fate would have it, I stumbled upon a blog called Girl in Florence. At the very, very bottom of her page on hotel recommendations in Florence, she recommended a B and B named Valdirose. I clicked on the owner’s Instagram page and knew immediately that this was the place we were going to stay. Here is why…

Good Food Reads: New York City!
I recently took my daughter to New York City and it was SO fun to see the city through her eyes. Vibrant and alive, New York City is one of my favorite places to visit. So many iconic sites, so much amazing diversity and of course THE FOOD! Although we barely scratched the surface of the dining scene, let’s talk about a few of our most recent experiences, from the kitschy to the iconic to the out of the way.
Good Food Reads: Travel Inspired Recipes
I’ve always loved the excitement of travel and the experiences of getting lost in a new culture. Over the years, my travels have taken me around the globe and I have so many great memories from each trip I’ve taken. Many of those memories are centered around special meals, shared with friends, in various places around the world. I love trying new foods and flavors and I especially love that those foods can come home with me and help me to relive those great memories in my own kitchen! When I’m feeling the wanderlust and I don’t have time to hit the road, I head to the grocery store and get cooking. This week’s Good Food Reads is inspired by some of my favorite foods from travel destinations I’ve loved in my life. I hope you love them as much as I do!
One of my favorite travel destinations is Mexico. I started going there with my family when I was a kid and continue to travel there most years, now with my own kiddos in tow. One of my favorite things to eat while there is chilaquiles. I’m typically partial to a variety with chicken and salsa verde, but this recipe Chilaquiles with Fried Eggs from Bon Appetit is on my list to try ASAP!…
