Creamy Vanilla Fruit Dip

June 25, 2019 By Holly 24 Comments

Just in time for the Fourth of July, we are bringing back a favorite recipe from the With Two Spoons archive that is easy to dress up with some red, white, and blue! This Creamy Vanilla Fruit Dip is a summer time entertaining staple. With only four simple ingredients, it is ready in just a few minutes and is perfect for kids and adults. We first published this recipe in April of last year and it has quickly become a favorite!

[Originally published April 24, 2018]

Spring has finally sprung here in the midwest and, after surviving nearly two feet of new snow last week, the sun is out and I just went for a run in shorts and a tee shirt. My gratitude for the warm weather knows no bounds after this doozy of a winter!  In addition to warmer temps, one of my favorite things about this time of year is that spring means berry season. My kids, who would probably live on berries if I let them, are especially excited about the rapidly increasing abundance of fresh fruit. While we typically just eat berries plain (by the handful or pint!), sometimes I love to serve them with this Creamy Vanilla Fruit Dip. It’s a simple recipe, perfect for parties and really makes your average berry feel like a special dessert.

With Two Spoons Reads: Recent Reads!

June 14, 2019 By Holly 1 Comment

Time for another bookish update here on With Two Spoons. If you follow us on social media (and if you don’t, you should!), you might know that in addition to all things food and cooking, we have a serious love of books and reading. As summer reading season ramps up, I thought it might be fun to share a few of my recent reads in case you’re looking for some new titles to add to your summer reading list!

One of my favorite things in the world is a an afternoon at the beach. Tuck me under an umbrella with a cold drink (like a Hugo Spritz!) and a good book and I’m a very happy girl. My husband and I were recently returned from a trip to Hawaii. In addition to some soaking up the beautiful sights, perfect weather, and having some fantastic island adventures, I also had a bunch of relaxing days at the beach. It was heaven….

No Bake Ice Cream Bars – Your New Summer Favorite!

June 11, 2019 By Holly 1 Comment

I have long said that if I could only choose one type of food to eat for the rest of my life, it would definitely be ice cream. I loooove ice cream. My love affair with the stuff started with family bike trips to the Dairy Queen as kid. At summer camp during my teen years, I was introduced to the gloriousness of Ben and Jerry’s Phish Food, an addiction that continues today. And don’t even get me started on my gelato obsession. Our family rule is: when in Europe, ice cream must be eaten at least once daily. Needless to say, I’m a fan of ice cream. That’s why I’m so excited to share with you our all-new No Bake Ice Cream Bars!

5 Travel Essentials For Long Flights

May 31, 2019 By Holly Leave a Comment

If you’ve been following With Two Spoons for awhile, you might have noticed that both Lane and I love to travel. We both really love the thrill of experiencing new places and cultures, especially when it comes to food! Late last week, my husband and I snuck away to Hawaii to celebrate our birthdays. Hawaii is one of our favorite places in the world for so many reasons – beautiful weather, gorgeous beaches, and (of course) amazing food. It’s our favorite place to really, truly relax. The one thing we don’t always love? The flight time. From the midwest, you’re looking at a solid 9 hours of in seat time to get to this island paradise. And while Hawaii is 100 percent worth it, as well all know, flying isn’t always the most pleasant of experiences. That being said, I’ve discovered over time that there are a few small things that can make long flights a little more enjoyable. Here’s my personal list of 5 Travel Essentials for Long Flights! 5 Essentials for Long Flights…

Lemon Herb Baked Tilapia

May 28, 2019 By Holly Leave a Comment

When I first started cooking, I will admit that I was a little bit afraid of making fish. I loved to eat it but making it at home was a whole different story. It seemed so complicated! With a thin line between under and over cooked and concerns about freshness (especially living in the midwest), it wasn’t something I thought of as an easy, weeknight meal option. Thankfully, a few years living in Boston, where fresh fish and seafood is abundant, shook me of that notion and now I love to make fish as often as I can. This Lemon Herb Baked Tilapia is the perfect recipe whether you are a fish expert or novice.

The 5 Things You Need to Read This Weekend

May 3, 2019 By Holly 2 Comments

It’s Friday! Finally. Right?

After a long and busy week, I am so ready for this weekend. Lane and I are heading up to her cabin for a fun filled girls weekend of recipe testing, food photography, and all around fun. It’s going to be a great time! I spent the morning pouring over my pages of recipe notes and ideas and then running to Trader Joes for all the things we are going to need for our weekend cooking extravaganza. My groceries are temporarily tucked away and shortly I’m going to pack up my weekend gear, but before I do, I wanted to share a few of my favorite things from around the web this week. It’s a quick little list, but one I hope you enjoy when you get some time. Grab some of our Lemon Cardamom Monkey Bread (pictured below), a good cup of coffee, and pull up a chair. Here are The 5 Things You Need to Read This Weekend…

Whiskey Sea Salt Caramels

April 30, 2019 By Holly 2 Comments

I’m gonna start with a little bit of truth telling: if you are here looking for a healthy recipe, you might want to keep on looking. This recipe is NOT vegan, low carb, keto, Whole30, or paleo. I’m not sure what the calorie count per delectable bite is (and frankly, I don’t want to know). What I do know, is that these Whiskey Sea Salt Caramels are about the tastiest thing I’ve had in a very long time and I recently had to give away most of my last test batch to keep from eating them all.

Friday Five: Current Skin Care Favorites

April 19, 2019 By Holly Leave a Comment

Well, this is definitely a little out of the box here on With Two Spoons, but I thought it might be fun to switch things up a little this week and talk about something completely not food related. I’ve never been much of a girly-girl per se, but I have always had a bit of a weakness for great skin and body products. My bathroom closet sometimes resembles a graveyard of unused bottles and tubes (so much stuff to try – and so many failures! Whoops!), but my vanity drawers are usually filled with so good they are used to the last drop favorites. These favorites change from time to time, but I do have stuff I always return to again and again. Friday Five this week is all about my Current Skin Care Favorites. FF: Current Skin Care Favorites
