It’s pumpkin season, friends. This versatile little squash is probably best known for the eponymous seasonal latte and as a fall decoration, but I love to bake with it. From my Mother-in-law’s famous pumpkin bread to our pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin is a key ingredient in so many of my fall and winter recipes. This week I’m sharing our new recipe for Pumpkin Pecan Scones.
…Pumpkin Ricotta Pancakes
I feel like I should have titled this blog post “confessions of a food blogger” because I’m about to let you in on a dirty little secret. Are you ready? Here it goes: I am the parent of a picky eater. A really picky eater. Yes, that is correct. This food blogging mama has a little one who will barely eat anything resembling real food. She is my two year old, blonde, sassy little bit of dynamite who has a definite mind of her own, especially when it comes to food. She essentially has five approved foods: cheese, yogurt, bread, scrambled eggs, and pancakes. Anything outside those groups is almost guaranteed to be refused and so I’ve had to get creative in my cooking. I developed these Pumpkin Ricotta Pancakes to try and sneak a little protein into my girl’s favorite breakfast. Our whole family loved them and I thought you might, too!

Today we have something very special for you!
For this Good Food Reads, we are going to feature a guest recipe by the wonderfully talented Lesli Schwartz of Asian Caucasian, who I had the pleasure of meeting at the Pinch of Yum Tasty Food Photography Workshop I attended this summer. (and enjoy the photos by Asian Caucasion-well, with the exception of the one of my little, that one is all mine!)

A Fall Classic: Pumpkin Bread
I had started out writing this post with a joke about pumpkin spiced everything this time of year but honestly, it just doesn’t feel right in light of all that is happening with the world. My heart is so heavy for the people of Las Vegas, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and everyone that feels less than or afraid everyday single day simply because of the color of their skin or their gender or who they choose to love. Sometimes it seems silly to write about things like baked goods when there are so many more important things we could be talking about. As I thought more about how to start this post, I realized that food is often a comfort – and not just in the eating of it. Food, for me, is so often about community. People coming together to share a meal and fellowship is one of the great joys and comforts of my life and I think community and comfort are things we can all use right now. With that in mind, I’m going to write about pumpkin bread today. And then I’m going to make a good cup of tea and sit down with those I love and eat. …
Good Food Reads | 01.18.17
Since welcoming my daughter in October, I’ve been on a bit of a mini-maternity leave from the blog, focusing mostly on Good Food Reads each week while Lane (bless!) has really taken over the cooking posts. As many of you know, having a newborn really limits the time for cooking and kitchen shenanigans. Well, I’m starting to slowly dip my toes back into the land of the cooking! As I think about things that I’m excited to make (and combine that with the constant hunger associated with nursing a baby – wow! I could eat ALL THE TIME), I continually get excited about Good Food Reads and have found so many things I want to share. …
Good (Food) Reads
Happy Wednesday, Friends! I am so excited to share this week’s Good Food Reads with you. One of the best parts of writing this blog is getting to read and share the fun things that others in this great community are doing in their kitchens. I don’t know about you, but they always inspire me to get up and get cooking! Right now, I’m feeling inspired by the changing season and a transition back to comfort foods. What are you loving right now? Send us your thoughts, recipes, and blogs to share! And now, here are this week’s Good Food Reads:…
