The 5 Cookbooks That are Getting Me Through Quarantine.

May 12, 2020 By Lane Leave a Comment

Quarantine cooking is a strange beast. I feel like I’ve made somewhere just short of one million meals, and I may not be too far off in my guesstimate. All of the sudden all of my family is around. All of the time. And hungry. All of the time. I’m trying to figure out new and flavorful dishes to serve that won’t take up all of my time or call for ingredients that I can’t find. Yet, it’s actually a great time for learning new techniques and trying new recipes. I’ve done a deep dive into my collection of cookbooks. These five cookbooks are the five cookbooks that I am spending lots and lots of time with these days.

A pile of cookbooks.

Everything but the Bagel Sourdough Crackers

May 5, 2020 By Lane 1 Comment

Anyone else feel like they are on their millionth meal since this whole “Stay at Home” thing started? Can’t think about planning (let alone executing) one more “balanced meal”? I am here for you. Many of my meals lately have been fruit + cheese + crackers + nuts. Not only because it’s easy, but also because it has served to rid the fridge and cupboards of leftovers in a very simple kind of way. And although I know Holly just recently showed you a simple healthy cracker recipe, I’m going to show you another. Because this is how we roll. Everything but the Bagel Sourdough Crackers are your next dinner weapon. Or lunch. Or breakfast. Or snack. Who even knows what time it is anymore anyway?

Quarantine 2020: Lessons from my Sourdough Starter

April 14, 2020 By Lane 1 Comment

Quarantine. Social Distancing. Covid-19. All words I would be 100% happy to NEVER hear again. But here we are. And I personally don’t think this is going to be truly “over” anytime soon. As we are all facing great stress, both at home and at work, I have chosen to focus on welcome distractions. Like my Sourdough Starter. Turns out it has had some great lessons to teach.

Meal Prep: Chicken Pesto Pasta

April 7, 2020 By Lane Leave a Comment

It’s been a TOUGH few weeks. Between shifts at the hospital, homeschooling (teachers y’all need a billion dollar raise) and trying to keep everyone on some sort of a schedule, it’s been a little trying. But one thing that has helped is cooking large batches of food. You know, meals like this Chicken Pesto Pasta that can be packed up for work, lunches, and just available for the multiple times a day my kids think they need to be eating.

February 11, 2020 By Lane 2 Comments

I was recently asked by a local magazine to come up with recipe ideas for rose water. Rose water? That was an ingredient I never even considered using. But you all know me. Here is my experience (spoiler alert: I learned A LOT!) and the recipe for my Vanilla Rose Meringues!
